So I was just reading through one of my first blog posts (I know it's only been like two weeks since I even started the blog but it feels like it's been so much longer)...and I said something like "Euros are pretty money you almost don't even want to spend." Well it turns out euros really aren't hard to spend at all. In fact, they are EASIER to spend than American money. Oh, gelato? SURE. Going out for wine with friends? WHY NOT. It's not like I have REAL money, just this pretty PRETEND money to spend. So that's great. I have absolutely no concept of money in this country. It's just pretty coins and shiny bills that slip through my fingers without me really even noticing. Today I'm practicing the art of eating the food I already have in my apartment. We are making homemade dinner from the pasta we already have, the cheese we already have, some leftover ratatouille sauce, bread and olive oil. Instead of going out. Italian meals (like actual sit-down restaurant meals) are SO BIG and expensive. They don't just have the salad/soup appetizer, a drink, and then a main course. This is how a traditional Italian meal goes:
aperitivo (appetizer drink that kick-starts your appetite)
first course: some sort of bread appetizer type thing, like pizza bread or bread with different spreads
VINO
second course: pasta. just the pasta. and it's so much better here than at olive garden. and there's usually no meat in the pasta itself.
VINO
third course: meat and salad.
VINO
dessert: something amazing, every time. Even though you're STUFFED from the previous three courses and all of the vino, you still have to eat it cause it's just SO good.
And it seems like a lot of vino, but in reality they aren't alcoholics, they just drink wine with most meals, the way Americans drink milk. They don't have milk really at all here, at least where I'm living. You can get milk, but people don't really drink it plain.
Anyways I have had this meal for the past two days, so I think I'm good for the next few days here. I have never felt so full of GOOD, FRESH food in my entire life.
That's all for today. I put albums up on facebook finally so most of my pictures are there now, but I'll add the most important ones in my beautiful, well-written blog that's coming sometime this week. HOPEFULLY. :)
Here are a few more pictures to get my anxious blog followers through the time until my next post. :)
