So, after over 24 hours of flying and traveling through airports where people didn't speak English, and I'm FINALLY HERE. Here's how the last couple days have gone:
I flew to New York. The flight sucked. I'm sick. I got a stupid cold right in time for this trip. My ears almost exploded as we landed in New York. But it didn't matter, I WAS FINALLY IN NEW YORK.
After 11 hours in the JFK airport in NYC, I found my group. A group of about 30 other students from my Italy program met in the JFK airport before our 9:00pm flight. On the flight, I sat next to great people, and slept the whole flight. Then, in Madrid, we had to RUN (very sweaty) from our NY flight, through the Madrid airport, to catch our flight to Rome. Once we landed in Rome, I found my luggage right away, went to the ATM and got some Euros, and bought a Caprece sandwich (fresh mozerella, tomato, and basil on GREAT bread). It was AMAZING. Then, we rode 3 hours to our hotel in Perugia (I slept the whole ride) and checked into our hotel. Our hotel prides itself on wine. YUM. We checked in, my roommates are AWESOME, the bathrooms are crazy (bidets, showers that just have the shower handle, the lights are hidden) but it's BEAUTIFUL. We had a group dinner ( all 70 some of us) in the hotel. It was a DELICIOUS pasta, salad with white wine vinegar dressing and cheese, chicken and lemon that I didn't have, and CHOCOLATE MOUSSE. YUM. Then, we all went to the only bar around (we're kinda in the outskirts right now until we get to our apartments). I swear this bar hadn't seen a crowd like ours EVER. Almost 70 of us walked into the bar asking for wine. They were so happy with all the service (the TWO bartenders, that was it) that they gave us free shots all night long. We bonded, drank wine, and had a GREAT time! The city is beautiful! I'm still adjusting to the time change. Tomorrow I will post pictures of the hotel room. And some of the hotel lobby (it's unbelievable how much wine they have on display...it's like all their walls are made of wine displays....OH ITALY)... :)
MORE TOMORROW, HOPEFULLY, after we move in! Love you all and thank you for the wonderful messages!
