"i'm just thinking about when we went to mexico six years ago and you packed 14 pairs of flip flops...one for each day."
My mom reminded me of this just today, after I told her that I managed to fit everything I need for a weekend in Paris into my purse. Yeah. My purse.
If Margie Marks were reading this, she'd be in disbelief. When I used to sleep over at Elyssa's house, her mom, Margie, would always say "What, you forgot the kitchen sink?" because I literally packed EVERYTHING I could EVER POSSIBLY need, just for the one night at their house. And we lived five minutes away.
When I was little and we'd go on family road-trips, my mom would limit me to my one bag, but all of my dolls and clothes wouldn't fit in it...so I'd hide another bag full of stuff under my seat in the van....and she usually wouldn't notice until we were too far away from the house for her to do anything about it. I was cunning when it came to making sure I packed waaaay too much for anywhere we ever went.
And yes, when we went to Mexico for Spring Break my freshmen year of high school, I iDID, in fact, pack 14 pairs of flip flops. I had lots of outfits! I couldn't wear the SAME flip flops EVERY day with DIFFERENT outfits!! That would be horrible! (Fun fact: I barely touched anything I packed when we went to Mexico...turns out when you stay at a resort in Mexico, all you really need is a swimsuit and a cover-up...and one pair of flip flops).
So this weekend, for three days in Paris, I have packed:
Underwear.
1 pair of shoes (the ones on my feet right now, as we speak)
2 pairs of socks (have to rewear them maybe? NOT a big deal)
1 pair of leggings (the ones i'm wearing, RIGHT NOW)
1 t-shirt (the one i'm wearing RIGHT NOW)
1 pair of jeans (in case its cold)
2 light sweaters (friday and saturday)
Ipod
Wallet.
Toothbrush
Travel toothpaste
Travel shampoo.
Oh and the jacket that I'm wearing, RIGHT NOW.
Dear future travellers, feel free to learn on your own, but after ten days of backpacking and a semester of weekend trips all over Europe, I have TRUTHFULLY and HONESTLY learned that what I have listed above is all you need to survive. Oh and water, but you can get that anywhere (not for free though...don't kid yourself. this is europe).
Anyways, I'm off to Paris for the weekend with my roommates, Crystal, Marg and Mandi!
Ci vediamo!
